Welcome to The Dejargonizer
Journey into the heart of jargness with Amir Mizroch, a communications professional and former WSJ tech editor.
We live in an age of messaging instead of story. And it’s getting worse.
Startup tech lingo makes it nearly impossible to separate truth from obfuscation, real from stretch, products from prototypes, KPIs from OKRs.
It’s hard to grasp what tech companies say they do from their own hero messaging. That’s not optimal, seeing as innovation is eating the world, with all the constructive destruction this entails.
It’s also a pity and a lost opportunity, because so many startups have really good stories that matter to really big audiences. They just don’t prioritize telling them.
Compelling and credible stories told in a smart way is a win-win for all sides. Or as Daniel Kahneman put it: "A world in which firms compete by offering better products is preferable to one in which the winner is the firm that is best at obfuscation.”
